Village Brush & Limb Pickup
04/05/2018 - 3:34pm

Brush will be picked up every Friday providing you call the Utilities Office at 937-526-3294 prior to the Friday you want the brush picked up so that your name can be placed on the brush list.  Citizens have the ability, and are encouraged, to take large piles of trimmings to the Village yard waste pile near the Village Wastewater Plant at 350 Grand Ave for discarding.

“Brush” is larger limbs that are put through the chipper, not to be confused with yard waste.  If the Utilities Office is not contacted, there is no guarantee that your brush will be picked up. Any brush and or limb pile larger than a normal pick up load (approximately 4’ X 4’ X 6’) will not be picked up and residents will be notified and requested to transport the brush or limbs to the yard waste pile. The Village, by ordinance, has the discretion to request ALL brush and limbs be transported by citizens of the Village and while we will always try to accommodate residents, it is necessary to keep the piles of brush to a reasonable size. We appreciate your cooperation regarding brush and limb pick up services.

S Center St Water Main Crossing
04/02/2018 - 2:33pm

The Village of Versailles and Bohman Excavating will be performing a water main tap and main line crossing between Woodland Dr. and Cambridge Dr. this Wednesday, April 4th.  We will be closing one lane of traffic at a time as we cross the street with a new 12” water main for the new subdivision planned off of Klipstine Rd.  Traffic will be maintained with flaggers as the work progresses.  Due to the poor soil conditions experienced during the sanitary sewer main crossing that occurred back in March, there is a risk that we may have to close the street entirely if trench conditions warrant for the safety of passing motorists.  We will try to avoid such a circumstance if at all possible.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation while me make these improvements on S. Center St.  If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Utilities Superintendent, Kyle Francis, at (937) 526-3294 x202.

Village Yard Waste Collection to Begin April 6th
03/29/2018 - 11:33am

The Village of Versailles will begin scheduled yard waste collection EVERY OTHER FRIDAY throughout the grass mowing months beginning Friday, April 6th, with the last collection scheduled for Friday, November 2nd.  Yard waste consists of grass clippings, plants, flowers, etc.

There is no need to call for this free service, as the yard waste route encompasses the entire Village of Versailles.  To participate in this collection, please place your yard waste at your regular collection spot in a container or trash can with a maximum capacity of 35 gallons.  Please refrain from using plastic trash bags and barrel-type containers without handles for yard waste collection.  Please also refrain from using the Village provided refuse and recycling containers.  Yard waste should be in a separate container.

As a reminder, yard waste can also be brought to the Village Yard Waste Pile at 300 Grand Avenue.  This pile is to be used only by persons on Village utilities.  Acceptable yard waste items include grass clippings, plants, flowers, etc.  NON-ACCEPTABLE items include root stumps, batteries, tires, plastic bags, concrete, animal waste, construction material, hazardous waste, infectious waste, and asbestos.  For any questions, please contact the Village Offices at 937-526-3294.

Village Offices to Close at Noon on Good Friday

S Center St Phase Waterline Replacement Project
03/06/2018 - 11:51am

The Village of Versailles will soon be starting construction on the S. Center St. Waterline Replacement Project.  The purpose of the project is to install approximately 1000 lineal feet of 12” water main along the West side of S. Center St. from Marker Rd. to the Elmwood Dr. intersection as well as installing approximately two hundred and fifty feet of new 8” water main along the South sides of Stevenson Dr. and Woodland Dr. from S. Center St.  This project was publicly bid with Village council awarding the contract to M&T Excavating, LLC of Bradford, Ohio at a price of $241,616.01.

This project was deemed a necessity due to numerous water main breaks over the past several years in the project area.  According to Village records, the existing 10” cast iron water main was installed in the late 1960’s along S. Center St.  A section of cast iron water main South of Elmwood Dr. was replaced in 2012 also due to numerous breaks.  The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) plans to repave this section of S. Center St. (SR 185) from Marker Rd. to St. Peter Rd. in the second half of 2018.  With new pavement planned, it was decided by Village Administration and Village Council to move forward with this project as a 2018 Capital Improvement Project to help minimize the risk of future water main breaks resulting in damage to the new asphalt surface and water service outages to customers in the area.

In addition to the water main replacements, the contractor will be replacing all water services, fire hydrants, and valves in the project area.  For properties along the East side of S. Center St. and a few on Stevenson Dr. and Woodland Dr., water service locations will be moved from the rear of their home to the front to allow for connections to the new mains.  These relocations are due to the need to retire and abandon the existing 6” water main that is currently located in a rear North/South alley way at the rear of the homes facing S. Center St.  This existing 6” transite water main was installed in the 1950’s and also has a history of breaks.

The project contractor intends to start on the project the week of March 12th.  Traffic will be restricted along S. Center St. in the project area during working hours, with one lane of traffic maintained at all times with the use of flaggers.  Traffic will likely be especially congested during school start and end times during the week.  It is likely that street closures may be required on Elmwood Dr., Stevenson Dr., and Woodland Dr. during working hours for construction activities with the contractor tasked with allowing vehicle access to those residents included in the closure areas.

The substantial completion date for the project is June 1, 2018 which requires that all water main, water services, asphalt repairs, driveway repairs, and sidewalk repairs are complete.  The final completion date for the project is June 29, 2018 and requires the completion of all final seeding and mulching of lawn areas disturbed as part of the project.

This project is being 100% locally funded by the Village's 1/2% income tax that is only used for street and related infrastructure improvements.  Without the tax levy dollars of the 1/2% income tax, large scale capital improvements such as this one would not be possible.  The Village wishes to sincerely thank all residents who vote to renew this tax levy each term so that the community can continue to reinvest in such street and infrastructure projects that benefit all residents and businesses.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns in regards to this project please feel free to contact the Utilities Superintendent, Kyle Francis, at (937) 526-3294 x202.
